She is concerned that the present lack of feeling in my foot and fingertips will become permanent if we don't change this treatment... I literally cannot feel my foot on the floor when walking, and that's my GOOD leg side! Last thing we need is for me to fall as a result of not being steady on my feet.
As for the lung / chest tube; as of now, that is hopefully coming out on 11/27 - providing the doctor got the message from the scheduler when the appointment got changed from 12/4... and my spinal puncture (tap) to draw fluid from my spinal column / brain to test, will be on 12/1 with scans the day before all day long... Scan followup on 12/4 early morning so we can find out what the F is going on and how well the Taxol has really been working.
After I checked out, Mike had been chatting with a woman waiting on her friend to check out. She also sees my doctor and at age 71 is dealing with MBC, and Mike was telling her friend about METAvivor and what they do. When she was done checking out, the four of us chatted a bit and I got her contact information. It always feels good to help another patient find their way around in the system, and better understand what they have available to them.
As I sit here typing this, on this Eve of Thanksgiving, I am filled with emotions. I've survived with this damnad disease 7 years, 6 months, and 14 days since the day we first visited the Emergency Room due to the extreme pain in my right abdominal area which ended up being mets in my pelvis. Mike had I had been married one week shy of two years that day. My stepson turned 18 that day, and my friend Mary was getting married. I was supposed to be her photographer for the day, but was stuck in the Emergency Room instead. Mike and I will celebrate TEN years of marriage in May 2018, providing I am still here of course. He has become my full time caregiver, more like babysitter. He has had to take over the cooking, laundry, he's my chauffeur, does the grocery shopping, and helps dress my catheter for my lung drain at present as I cannot see past my right breast to apply the sticky covering that keeps it sanitary. My Grandchildren at the time I was diagnosed were almost 5 and almost 12. Today, they are 12 and 19 plus a month or two... I've been to Nashville, Georgia and Florida to both the Gulf Shore and the Atlantic Shore with my daughter. Watched my great Nieces and Nephews grow into teenagers, and outlived all of my cats; even adopting a new one 2 years ago after our Ashley passed away at 17 years (human) old. When I look at all of this, I feel blessed. This disease has a typical lifespan of less than 5 years. My own mother survived in a comatose state for less than FOUR Months in 1971... RESEARCH has come a LONG WAY, helping us live longer, better lives.
We are no way out of the woods though, #STAGEivNEEDSMORE RESEARCH!! Funding for Research is minimal. Organizations like METAvivor make this possible as 100% of their donations are applied toward research grants SPECIFIC TO those of us ALREADY METASTATIC... Not only is financial funding in need, but we as patients, need to help out too... with our tissues, blood, biopsy samples... talk to your doctor about what you can do to help donate while you are still HERE, and if you are interested in helping even further, upon your own death, how you can donate your body or tissues or organs to help with Metastatic Research further and STILL be able to have a open casket funeral if so desired. I have opted for cremation and have signed over my body for them to use whatever they need to further research for MBC. To help keep women like myself living, and able to spend our lives with our families; please consider a financial donation - tax deductible of course, to METAvivor.org, and if you are a MBC patient, please consider talking to your doctor about how YOU can help provide tissue samples, etc., while you are still living and what you can do in advance to help even further, after you are gone. We may not find a cure for THIS Generation, but let's do what we can for the NEXT GENERATION...
Happy Thanksgiving to you all. I hope you enjoy your families and friends, and all consider making your donation to help those of us living life with Metastatic Breast Cancer... If you shop Amazon Prime, you can select METAVIVOR as your charity to receive credit even!!
