We were also concerned about continued pain in my right knee after the Intramedullary Rod Insertion surgery last November, which the MRI does not show any issues with thankfully. The MRI of the LEFT leg however, does show enlargement of a metastatic deposit within the left intertrochanteric region w/ associated marrow edema and heterogenous post-contrast enhancement. I will be following up with the Ortho-Oncology Surgeon that did my surgery last fall to get her opinion of this finding. (this is in my left hip region, the initial finding was in my right hip).
Upper extremity MRI findings: There is a new enhancing lesion in the L2 Vertebral body and shows some progression of mild to moderate degenerative disc and facet disease w/ some disc buldges / protrusions / herniations at T 7-8, L 1-2, and L3-4, which L3-4 looks worse than before showing the herniation off to foramen and nerve root.
CT Scan Findings of Chest & Abdomen: A small possible cyst on the left kidney (but nothing showing in bloodwork to indicate an issue) that is too small to characterize and several stable indeterminate pulmonary nodules within the lungs (unchanged with past several scans). This also concurred with the mri findings on the spine.
All of this is being followed up with more review with my doctor, an xray was done of the left hip and I am waiting for a call to schedule with my Ortho oncologist. While I understand many of you have no clue what half of these words mean, please know that without my oncologist to break it down for us, neither do we. I do not for-see going downhill with these results, but will be following doctors orders and recommendations to address the changes and get back to being STABLE. I have far too many fundraiser craft events to plan, including the one for when METAvivor comes to Ann Arbor in April 2015...not to mention, spending precious time with my family and friends.
I am so thankful that I insisted on the MRI, as it was what found the changes... not that I am happy with the news by any means...just that now I know I was not imagining something changing within my body. ALWAYS LISTEN TO THOSE SIGNALS!! Stand your ground, you have rights as a patient, make sure you know them!! As for my CA 15-3 results from yesterday, they were not available from the lab at the time of my appointment, and are not yet on my patient portal. As of last month, it was at 88.8 (27 is "normal").
I wanted to make sure to let those that wanted to be kept updated know where things stand. Just know that I am not planning to let this put back 10 steps like last winter... I - correction, WE so appreciate all of your prayers and good wishes. This is why it is so much different than fighting "Just Breast Cancer" when fighting Metastatic Breast Cancer. There is no "just a few rounds of chemo, a few shots of radiation and you're on your way to recovery" anymore... the disease continues to grow, slowly in me thankfully, but in so many of my sisters and brothers in the fight, they are not so blessed or have passed this phase and the disease progresses more rapidly with each new finding.
THIS is why I advocate like a desperate person to find a cure... because I am just that. Desperate to help find an actual CURE for what is spreading throughout my bones, and one day, will find it's way to my soft tissue organs, and that is when I will know my time is nearer. For now, I will do what I can to #ENJOYLIFE... as much as I possibly can.
My 52nd Birthday is coming next month, something my own Mother never had the opportunity to see...as she lost her fight with the same damn disease at 43, in 1971. I am thankful for the advances in science over the years, there just needs to be more... which is why I choose METAvivor as my charity of choice. They apply every dollar toward either support & education for patients or grants for research towards an actual cure for MBC. I hope you will join me in supporting METAvivor with their efforts, so one day, we WILL have a cure and no more men & women will have to Metastasize, or eventually die from this disease.
