DIY Peg Board Display Stand for Craft Shows

Picture
This weekend, my hubby Mike and I went to Lowes and got the materials for just under $100 to create this amazing new pegboard display stand for the craft shows.  I still need to decide how to paint it and what pegs I will need to hang my 18" Doll Clothes, tooth fairy pillows, hanging bag socks, and other merchandise... but I am so happy with the way this has turned out thus far!

This is going to be easy to carry and assemble.  I can use it as one or two sections an use both sides to hang merchandise.  I will no longer need to worry about having a big table to try to lay my merchandise out on an look organized.   A HUGE thank you to Mike for his hard work and the love he put into this project!

I included the assembly instructions in case anyone is interested in creating one similar... I wanted my bottom rungs staggered to create a visual effect... Thinking I will use my METAvivor ribbon colors to paint this... the Pink, Teal, and green with maybe a bright yellow for the trim... Any ideas on this would be welcome in our comments!

Can't wait to put this to use on April 20th at the Ypsilanti Eagles Spring Craft and Vendor show... hope I can meet some of you there!

Now I need to get back to focusing on my sewing... I did get several items finished over the past week between doctor appointments for either Mike or myself... Alot of the T-shirts and some jeans & knit pants as well.  Thinking I need to add more dresses... it would really help if you all would provide some input as to what items you would like to see added to our inventory...I'd be glad to create something new for you!

So... for now... Enjoy life and don't let things get you down... take time to breathe, and love yourself as much as you love others!

Thank you Rachel. We would love to see photos of your completed display modeled after our own. I just love mine, and that it separates into two standing displays, is an added bonus! CRAFT ON!!

I would love to recreate this for my hanging baskets. How many strips of wood did you have to purchase?

This looks amazing!

Austi, I am glad that you like our display! I don't recall how many we purchased. Depending on the height and width of what you want to create, and how much additional space you would like at the bottom, you need to make sure that you have enough to have both sides, top and bottom pieces, and then you use the table saw to cut the slits (daedo) into the center of the strips you will be inserting the pegboard into. I went for the additional strip at the bottom for added support & strength, as well as for an extra strip to hang things like my sleeping bags from. AS for hanging baskets, I am not sure this would be such a good display for that... You might want to use dowel rods in place of the peg board to run across the width for those, and make sure they are heavy enough to hold the weight. Good luck! Would love to see photos of finished project!

Thank you Kathy. As I mentioned in earlier comments, There are no written pattern or instructions, other than what is in the comments within the photos shown here. You could modify it to suit your own needs. For my doll clothing, I have found some metal tubes that were hollow and had hubby drill holes in the ends so they will sit over the ends of the long pegs on the pegboard, making it similar to a closet rod on the board and I can hang 3 rods on each panel that way. Best wishes to you, I'd love to see what you come up with, feel free to share with us on my Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/tlcgardens.crafts. TLC

did Mike put feet on it for stability? I am afraid someone would be too heavy handed nd knock it over taking something off or putting it back.

Hi Amy,
We did put feet on it after the fact. We used the plastic nail on feet, two on each panel. This was more for an easy way for me to glide it across the floors as opposed to for stability, but it does help. I make sure it is displayed with enough of an angle to help it stand upright. Outdoors, it was a bit of an issue in the wind. We ended up tying it to the canopy legs to keep it from falling over then. I wanted wheels on it, but we settled on the plastic feet instead as those would not do well on grassy areas.. As my shoulder and back have gotten worse since the stand was built due to my metastatic breast cancer/bone mets, this made it easier for me to move it when I was by myself.
Thank you for your inquiry. I hope this helps and would LOVE to see any of your renditions of our display stand!!

Hi Karen,
Thank you! This was never intended to be a tutorial site, but to share ideas. As for cutting lengths, whatever fits your needs would work I suppose. We opted for the board itself being 6 feet by 2 feet with the bottom open section being about 2 feet from the bottom of the pegboard to the ground. AS for hinges, I believe there are several varieties of Door HInges you could use. These happened to be standard 3 inch door hinges made from brass. You can purchase peg board in full sheets of 4 ft x 8 ft and have them cut them in half to make your display in 2 ft sections like this, or use the full 4 ft width, depending on what you plan to display on it and what you are able to carry / haul.
I hope this answer helps with your creation!

Hi! I wrangled my husband into making the same type of display. We have used it several times for art fairs but had few heart pounding moments where they almost feel over due to wind or pedestrians....I'd LOVE to hear how you have solved this problem. Thanks for this posting!

Thanks for the contact. Most shows I've done were indoors, and with my doll clothes, there were no issues with falling over. We did do a few outside shows in the fall, very windy. Our EZUp took quite a beating, we tried tying the stand to the poles, not advisable... filled milk jugs with water and ties to the bottom supports, somewhat helpful but needed to. be braced at top. I found separating the two panels worked best and secure them at the corners of the tent with a separate rod inserted into the ground. My product however, being so light weight, was blowing all over the place those days. what a workout! Main reason we don't do outdoor shows. even with the walls up on the tent, it was impossible in that wind at the corn maze that fall.
Good luck in the future. Try getting a space near a building or structure that helps to block the wind. As for pedestrians, just use caution in placement so they don't. stick out in the aisles I guess. Make sure you have a good angle in the hinge section to help prevent it from falling over. I have even managed to set it up in a square around the Tent pole ... or indoors.

I love to create things.  Mostly, things made for the little ones in our lives, but also for the bigger kids and adults as well.   I sew, scrapbook, create floral displays, make beaded jewelry and tote bags,... just about anything except freehand painting or drawing.  I love to create great food as well, so on occasion, I will be sharing some great dishes and recipes.
